Treatment Options:
Although you can't cure Genital Herpes you can still treat it. If you are tested and come back positive for having Genital Herpes your doctor will often give you antiviral therapy for 7-10 days to prevent the sores from getting worse. After the antiviral therapy there are two other options you and your doctor can decide on: Intermittent Treatment or Suppressive Treatment. Intermittent treatment will put you on another antiviral drug but one you only taken 2-5 days after you get a breakout or 2-5 days before you get a breakout. The sores will go away on their own but the antiviral drug will help the symptoms. Suppressive Treatment will put you on the antiviral drug everyday. Suppressive treatment is for people who have outbreaks often. Suppressive treatment will help breakouts go away 70% to 80%. Many people who do the suppressive treatment don't have outbreaks at all. So if you ever happen to touch your sores do not touch another part of your body and wash your hands very well for a long time to make sure you have none of the virus left on your hand.
