Information on testing
You can talk to your gynecologist, pediatrician, adolescent doctor or family doctor about getting tested. You can get tested at basically any hospital or clinic in the country. In Clinics you can get confidential testing or you can get anonymous testing. Confidential testing is where they know your name but keep the test results a secret. Anonymous testing is where they don't know your name. Most clinics or hospitals will ask you to take counseling to get the results even if it's negative. The test can be a test where they take a swab on the inside of your cheek or it can be a blood test. The results can take a couple minutes or it can take a couple days depending on the test. When you take the test you should tell the doctor the best way to reach you with the results. If you can't find a doctor or get an HIV test you could contact the National AIDS Hotline which is (800) 342-AIDS and a specialist will tell you what to do. If you had unprotected sex with someone that has HIV were forced or raped, you should go to the emergency room or see a doctor as soon as possible so they can give you medicine to prevent HIV. You should go there within 72 hours and they will do the right testing to help you.
