Syphilis is a bacterial infection which is known as spirochete. Syphilis also can be known as "The Great Pretender." It is hard to tell when you have syphilis unless you have advanced in stages with symptoms. Some other names syphilis can be well known for are Congenital Iues and Fetal Syphilis.
Syphilis SYMPTOMS.
Primary Stage Symptoms.
In the first stage of Syphilis you could notice a few bumps that are called chancre. Chancre's are normally firm, round, and painless. They also can look like bug bites. In the first stage of syphilis the sores will heal whether or not they are treated, in about 3.6 weeks. However, if the person doesn't seek adequate treatment, the infection is most likely to change to second stage of syphilis. |
Secondary Stage Symptoms.
It is very common to have a rash appear in the second stage of syphilis. The rash normally isn't itchy. It appears to be rough, red, and reddish brown spots. Some other symptoms that could be noticed in the secondary stage of syphilis are: fever, sore throat, headaches, patchy hair loss, and muscle aches. The symptoms in the secondary stage of syphilis will go away without treatment, but without any treatment, the infection can progress into latent and late stages. |
Latent and late stage symptoms.
These stages can be very dangerous even if you can't tell it is there. These stages don't have that many symptoms because they seem to stay hidden. If you are in the late stage you are mainly having the disease affect you now. It can damage your internal organs, including the heart, liver, brain, nerves, eyes, bones, and joints. Some symptoms of the late stages are, numbness, difficult of muscle movements, and blindness. |
Can Syphilis Be Cured?
Syphilis does have a chance to be cured. The best way to cure syphilis is to be able to catch the bacterial disease in the primary stage. Syphilis can be cured by antibiotics like penicillin. Many women have the chances of having syphilis during they are pregnant. To make it safer for the unborn child not to get the bacterial disease, they will cure the mother the same way as others with penicillin.
Can Syphilis Be Treated?
Syphilis can't be treated with any over the counter drugs. Syphilis can be treated by penicillin. In any stage of syphilis you can start treatment. Treatment will kill the syphilis bacteria and will prevent further damage, but the treatment can't bring back back the damage that has already been done.
Which age group gets syphilis the most?
Syphilis can happen to anyone. Syphilis is more likely to happen to young adults between the ages 15-25. It is also found in the Urban areas more than others.
What Effects are there for people that have syphilis or had syphilis?
Social Effect
Sooner or later people are going to find out you had a STD or have one. If you have or had syphilis people may not want to be around you. If you have had syphilis in your life it may be a struggle also when you older in a relationship. Some people may act different or think different of you. |

How Is Syphilis Spread?
Syphilis can be spread by the bacteria different ways including direct contact with a syphilis sore during sexual intercourse including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. The infection also can be passed from a mother that has Syphilis to her baby.(That is why many women are asked to get tested for Syphilis before getting married or have sex.) The mother paces it to her unborn child through the placenta. Most of the unborn children that get syphilis die shortly after or have health problems.
